In recent times as people have become more health-conscious, diagnostic centers have been popping up like mushrooms. With corporations partnering with companies providing such services, this sector has become a money making one. All you need is some capital investment, a few tie-ups and you are ready to go.

I needed to get a test done and it became bit of a deal. First the appointment wasn’t confirmed timely, then the diagnostic center messed it up.

I was a bit pissed off, and on my way back, the Gurdas Maan song zeher v deve yaar te pee lai chup karke just popped into my head. I then put on his 1998 album Dil Hona Chahida Jawan, and it was a nice trip down memory lane, especially the song tere gaman de vichhaune kithe dahiye sajna.

Those were the days when the Punjabi music was becoming more Pop’ish and singers were trying to fit in that new changed framework. The music and the video of this album’s title song reflects that. This album wasn’t that big of a hit probably due to this Pop’ish music feel as traditionally the music Gurdas Maan used was not really Pop. His lyrics were also somewhat difficult to understand, especially for non-Punjabis. The album released before this in 1997 was Yaar Mera Pyar which features the popular and later somewhat unnecessarily criticized song apna punjab hove. That song was a big hit. I am not 100% sure if there was no album released in this years but there was a gap of a few years before his next hit album Punjeeri which came in 2003. It was a big hit and by this time the music trend had changed and kind of settled. Its music wasn’t really Pop. It was more traditional with use of modern instruments. I will talk about the songs of this album in some other post. Leaving you with the song I talked about.
