So the govt wants to do away with the concept of board exams for class Xth. What a stupid direction we want to walk-in ! Before thinking about this idea (which is a complete copy-paste from the West) has anybody tried to see the standard of education in school and colleges in India ? Education in India is one of the most terribly screwed up things. Govt institutions have fallen below all the standards and for private institutions it is a pure business. Colleges after colleges, universities after universities are opening like branches of a tree. They are charging sky touching fees which a very small percentage of people can afford to pay. Anyways, talking about the effects of doing away with the board exams, my main question is what advantages we/education standard is going to have from this concept ? On the negative side there are so many things like:
- There is some amount of fear of board exams in the minds of students so do study, at least to pass the exams. That fear gone away and no-one is going to care about preparing for the exams.
- When things will get in the hands of schools, its effects are going to be terrible. In Govt schools, things are already at their worst, they are gonna worsen even more. In private schools, to show good results they are gonna play with the numbers on the marks sheets of the students.
- Teachers are going to give good marks only to the students who will take tuitions from them. Its going to corrupt the whole culture like anything.
These are just a few. There could be a lot more. Rather than taking such stupid decisions, we need to work on improving education standards in India.
God help India !

Before i start writing, i should mention that the whole inspiration for writing this post has come from an announcement made in Delhi Metro that “Male passengers are requested not to sit on the seats reserved for ladies”. It is one step ahead actually. Earlier they used to announce that “Please vacate seats for Ladies, senior citizens and physically challenged”. Now this one. What irritates me the most is the contrast between the thought being created that women are not the weaker sex, they can do everything blah blah blah and such announcements. In Delhi, in buses also all the seats on left side are reserved for ladies and oh yes they are sitting on some seats on right side too and NO you can’t ask them to get up. Is there an explanation that how all of this bullshit fits under one cover ? One on side the whole media, women organizations and x y z are hell bent on proving that women are not the weaker sex and on the other side women need reserved seats in buses, metros and where not ? And after getting into the bus or metro, the way they ask for the seat is just awesome as if it was their Dad’s property. Bullshit ! Either they should accept that yes women are the weaker sex or they shouldn’t ask for reservations !
BTW ladies what is your say about this ?

So its celebration time as Slumdog has won Oscars like chocolates in a kids’ competition. Oh yes our very own A R Rahman has won 2 Oscars and that is the first time for India. It is great in so many ways. The biggest advantage i see is to Media as they have got the masala for whole of the next month (And keeping that in mind i already have almost decided to avoid TV (which in any case i already don’t watch for more than 10 minutes a day and that too is not working these days) and newspaper in coming 2 weeks, as there would be nothing to read and watch except (O)scars ).
So, once again a movie can get something only if it has got an English label attached to it. Same is the case with Slumdog. It was made out of India and did wonders. Had the same story made by an Indian, it won’t get a single Oscar leave alone 8. What is sad about this story is that in any case all these Oscars have everything to do with the label and nothing with India. Also does it mean that nothing better than Slumdog has ever been produced in India ? Was it the best out of Gulzar & A R Rahman combo (and oh yes…how we are forgetting Sukhwinder…) ? Oh no. They have done way better than this in the past and have the potential to do way better in future. So it doesn’t make me very happy
Anyways, as everybody is celebrating, congratulations on winning the first Oscar. Jai Ho !!!

It has been close to 2 years since i have been using Dish TV. And almost everything related with it sucks except the only reason because of which i went for it that there was ETC Punjabi available here (which is not there in TataSky). The remote control, customer care, service, website everything is all crap. The biggest frustration is the website. First of all it seems to be coded by some kids doing their school project. Then the options available are placed in such a dumbo and stupid manner. Since the time i bought it, i have never been able to recharge it without getting frustrated. Zee network, enterprise of such a big size, cannot pay for a nice looking and working website. BULLSHIT !
Updated: After 10 days since i did this post, today i tried it again and its still not working.

Few days back i saw a new metal detector in my office building, just before the lift. It reminded me of my curiosity about the metal detectors. You see them at each and every place but never understand what they sound like when there is something right and what, when, something wrong ? Have always listened to their “beep-beep” but never knowing what did that mean ?
Any ideas ?
