Merging three blogs into one

As it was becoming difficult to maintain 3 different blogs So I merged three blogs of mine into one. Now posts from all three blogs Perosnal, Poetry & Punjabiat are merged into Personal one. The posts specific to Poetry and Punjabiat blogs can be accessed from the tabs on the top. The pages from each of these blogs are also linked under those tabs. For the time being I have also set up temporary redirection from the old URLs to new URLs. There is some cleanup that needs to be done. Hope to complete that soon.

Some things are just not meant to work

Some things are just not meant to work the way you want them to. I mean no matter how much you try, you can never get some things to work.

This PC that I got almost 3 years back I think is one of such items. First I wanted to buy a powerful machine with at least 8 Gigs of RAM. Problem at that time was very few motherboards supported 8 Gigs. Finally selected all the components and got it assembled. It included a very expensive Microsoft wireless Keyboard and Mouse.

The first signs of illness were shown by keyboard itself when it didn’t work and had to get it replaced.

Then second issue was that it kept rebooting randomly. Tried different versions of Windows but same story every time. Finally after some R&D I came to know that there was some problem with the motherboard. Got a new motherboard and it worked ok for few months.

Now the problem was that Windows would hang randomly and the only option was to reset the PC. I could never solve that problem but became almost sure that it had something to do with hardware. May be the components weren’t compatible or something.

Then twice or thrice power supply unit got screwed up. Fed up of all this I got an expensive one, Corsair power supply. Even that got blasted once but the one that I got after replacement has been working fine till date (touchwood).

Now it was monitor’s turn. It started giving some flicker problem. The screen keeps going on and off randomly. Again looks like some hardware shit.

The only thing that didn’t give problems was UPS (an APC one). Recently it also started complaining about battery. Got the battery replaced but still it doesn’t work properly.

Oh I think I forgot that there was one incident with hard disk also where it developed some bad sectors and had to be replaced.

This whole thing wasn’t meant to work ! No ?

2013

I remember writing a similar post exactly 1 year ago.

Today again I will just wish for the same.

May the sufferings and pains of this world end.

May it be a more peaceful place.

But we need to do a lot before we reach there. In the words of Faiz sahab

humne maana jung kari hai sar footenge, khoon bahega,

khoon mein gham bhi beh jayenge…

Aameen !

An awesome pic

Got a link to an amazing photograph of Obama’s inaugural speech. As the website puts it:

Here is a photo taken using a a panaroma image capturing device called gigapan created by the carnegie mellon university and a canon g10 camera. The photographer had to click 220 snaps from that camera to get this complete view of the Obama’s inaugural address. It took a macbook pro around 7hrs to process the complete image. The final size of the image is over 2GB.

Here is the link to the pic:

Welcome to Stock Market

I got one forwarded mail. Its worth reading in the present scenario:

Once upon a time in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for Rs10. The villagers seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at Rs10 and as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at Rs20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to Rs25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it!

The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at Rs50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at Rs35 and when the man returns from the city, you can sell it to him for Rs50.” The villagers squeezed up with all their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man nor his assistant, only monkeys everywhere!!!

Welcome to the “Stock” Market!!!!! 😉

Language for language ?

A friend of mine raised a concern that when you are promoting Punjabi language and culture why the language used is English ? It should also be Punjabi. Well I fully agree to the fact. If we are promoting Punjabi, the very first thing is that the language used for that promotion campaign has to be Punjabi. No second thought here.

Now another thing that bugs me a bit is that some percentage of Punjabi people (pretty good portion, I guess) cannot read Gurmukhi (That is why I am writing this post in English). So if we write in Gurmukhi aren’t we missing them as a target of our message ? They won’t be interested in trying to read this.

So is this a trade off ?

What is your say ?

How we should do it ?

All about poetry…

Well, I created this blog to post all the poetry I have read and loved. Be it in any form a poem, a song or anything else and any language. Will try to post something regularly. Also I will try to include whatever information I have about the post like writer, singer or anything else.

Hope, you enjoy reading the posts… 🙂
