Reserved…for ladies

Before i start writing, i should mention that the whole inspiration for writing this post has come from an announcement made in Delhi Metro that “Male passengers are requested not to sit on the seats reserved for ladies”. It is one step ahead actually. Earlier they used to announce that “Please vacate seats for Ladies, senior citizens and physically challenged”. Now this one. What irritates me the most is the contrast between the thought being created that women are not the weaker sex, they can do everything blah blah blah and such announcements. In Delhi, in buses also all the seats on left side are reserved for ladies and oh yes they are sitting on some seats on right side too and NO you can’t ask them to get up. Is there an explanation that how all of this bullshit fits under one cover ? One on side the whole media, women organizations and x y z are hell bent on proving that women are not the weaker sex and on the other side women need reserved seats in buses, metros and where not ? And after getting into the bus or metro, the way they ask for the seat is just awesome as if it was their Dad’s property. Bullshit ! Either they should accept that yes women are the  weaker sex or they shouldn’t ask for reservations !

BTW ladies what is your say about this ?

  1. HAHAHA

I completely agree with the anger tone of yours. When there is a matter of equality, it should be judged in all the aspects. Any rule must not be bent to take advantage and sadly, that’s what happens with these kind of rules. No idea what to say about it. Its not the story of one place/city/country. Its there everywhere and there is nothing IMO which can be done for it.

    Cheers
    Aman….

    • Hmmm….
      I see some frustration … :)………………
it seems that u have been harassed and manhandled by ladies and that too couple of times while u tried to empower the weaker sex by remaining seated on the reserved seats.

On the contrary guys like u (Hypo crates) put there full effort and energy just to get close to women to harass them….. I don’t think that there is any problem in reserving some percentage seat of seats for women atleast they can be safe from morons like u.

I also see, from your message 🙂

        No…Never !

u tried to empower the weaker sex by remaining seated on the reserved seats.

I never did that and won’t even do ! But yes if i am sitting on a general seat then it would purely be my choice whether to offer my seat to someone or not ! (which i would definitely, for someone in need of it )

You have not mentioned your name so not sure if i know you. But, probably you are writing this too early, without knowing me.

And i haven’t seen a single woman in my life who gave her seat to someone in need ! Men still do !

    • @Aman

Thanks for the support man 😉

  2. yes, it’s correct that it’s totally your frustration !
i think you don’t believe that there should be some respect for female..you are giving a name ‘weaker sex’ !! what we want is only ‘fair sex’.
if you are hurt by Metro people request to leave seats for female…just answer 1 question !if there is no seat reserved for females and bus/metro is over crowded and a lady is standing in between all males, why all males just try to touch her or do bad things ?why females are not safe ?only because of males….we just want to be safe and that’s why to be treated as a ‘fair sex’…..

I totally agree about the respect part.

I agree about the bus. But i haven’t observed this in Metro. About the safety part, i agree whole heartily.

  3. Hi Amar,

I completely agree with you on this point. I really liked this initiative.

But sometime, these things are beneficial like taking a train ticket by asking a lady passenger where the line is small.

You are married, that is why you have an option, always 😉

  4. i know the system of india.. in chandigarh, even if there is no lady in the bus, the conductor says no man can sit on the front 8 seats… haha… i had seen vacant seats (first 8 ) and the mans standing.. lol

here in canada, seats are only reserved for handicapped and senior but u can sit, if some one of that category comes in the bus, u have to vacate the seat… here in ttc buses there are 5 cameras in one bus (koi hil k ta dilkhawe) 🙂

  5. corrections … vacant seats (first 8) in first para..

second: senior should be read as seniors.

  6. O Oh!!
While I do agree with your anger about ladies demanding ‘reservations’, I do think it is justified to some extent. Women are considered weaker sex because of certain physical limitations, and that should be respected. I am all for equality, but certain things are to be taken as they are. How would you know if a woman is pregnant (in case it is not showing), and might be finding it difficult to stand? Equality is of the state of mind, and not of physical capabilities.
Oh and what happened to male chivalry? Why is chauvinism accepted but not chivalry anymore?

  7. I think people are missing the point..

@Weaker sex: I dont think sidhu is angry for the existence of ‘reservations for women’. More like for the ignorance of the announcer and his indifference to the subtle difference or a bad choice of words? or his wife might be xtra tough on him 🙂

The point is people are in transition from understanding respect for women(growing out of their animal instinct). Some understand some dont. (both male and female)

@sidhu: it is not an absolute. we cant Just be on this side or that side

we can hope for a day when reservations wont be needed as the two sexes will truly be equal.

  8. I think you are right with your thought, only weaker species ask for things, strong species need not to beg beg for quotas……….

  9. I agree with you completely. Its so true n u just took words from my mouth. Every word is true n i felt like this millions of times.

  10. Thanks guys for your comments.

  11. Men have always been known for their chivalry. If they are treated well by women, they get treated better in return. If women want to be taken good care of by their men, they need to respect and treat their men with dignity.
