I agree that its a good step. And for the people who start the flame wars, well there is nothing I guess ever we can do about it.Its really a personal perception if we say to some one clearly whatto do or just mention RTFM.Its much difficult in my view to clearly show the way rather than just mentioning RTFM.

Yup Andrew

Agree ! Database forum has given birth to many flaming threads over past 2-3 months.

I don’t think it will make much difference. The sort of person who posts a question titled URGENT SQL PROBLEM!!!! is not the sort of person who will bother reading a post on Forum Etiquette. Likewise persistent flamers will continue to flame on. But at least it’s a start.

Exactly. The newbies don't read any rules (its almost on every forum, not only OTN) and the people who want to post "flaming" stuff will not look at it. So again the same thing is rendered useless.

But definitely its the first step in this direction...

I think the reason why Justin has posted the sticky on the DB General site is that has been where the most vicious threads have been, at least recently. This is mainly because certain regulars - I don't need to to name them, we know who I'm talking about - tend to restrict themselves to that forum.
