Firstly, thank you for all the comments and emails, I’m very touched !!
Those of you that know me realise I have a naughty little streak in me that likes to get out and have some fun every now and then. April 1st is usually one of those days.
I feel a little guilty in posting my “Announcement” on 31 […]

I’m writing this sitting in one of the observation lounges at the OUG Norway conference, which this year is taking place on a cruise liner/ferry sailing from Oslo to Kiel and back. We’re just pulling in to Kiel Harbour now, the ship docs here for a few hours for anyone who wants to get off, […]

I am installing subversion client on HP-UX, after installing when i ran svn—version command I received following error message:
|
#root@:/> /usr/local/bin/svn –version
/usr/lib/hpux32/dld.so: Unable to find library ‘libintl.so’.
Killed
|
There are several dependencies package that needs to be installed for running subversion on HP-UX , I have installed following packages :
apr0.9.17
apr_util 0.9.15
db 4.6.21
expat 2.0.1
flex 2.5.35
gcc 2.9.2000-12-15
heimdal 1.0.2
libiconv 1.12
libxml2 2.6.31
neon 0.28.1
openssl 0.9.8g
python 1.6.2000-12-15
termcap 1.3.1
zlib 1.2.3
After installing these packages i checked again to see if there are no subversion error to execute svn command:
|
#root@:/> /usr/local/bin/svn –version
/usr/lib/hpux32/dld.so: Unable to find library ‘libintl.so’.
Killed
|
But I received “libintl.so” unable to find library. I did search on google but find nothing. So i start installing few more GNU packages and one of the package fixed “unable to find library ‘libntl.so’ .
If you are getting /usr/lib/hpux32/dld.so: Unable to find library ‘libintl.so’error try installing gettext package on HP-UX to fix the problem.

Good catch, Dan.
Hotsos Symposium will still be the Hotsos Symposium. The same cast of characters who are now Method R employees will still contribute to Hotsos Symposium 2009 just like we’ve done for the past several years.

After much thought, I’ve decided to finally retire from being an Oracle DBA.
Previously, I had hoped to delay this difficult decision, but I’m sure the time is now right.
Recent events have convinced me that I just not suited to this role and all this Oracle tuning stuff is too damn hard.
In fact, if you read […]

In October 1999, my friend Gary Goodman and I started a company called Hotsos. In the past eight years, we’ve invented a new method for optimizing Oracle systems, educated thousands of people on how to use it, and written and sold some pretty good software. Today marks the end of my employment at Hotsos.
Over the past few months, Gary and I have negotiated an amicable split agreement that leaves Hotsos well and strong, and that gives me the opportunity to pursue the work that I’m passionate about, as the sole owner. Tomorrow, 1 April 2008 (no foolin’) is the start of operations of Method R Corporation. I’ll bring with me a small group of extraordinary people who share my passion.
Method R will own and continue to maintain the Hotsos Profiler software product and the new SLA Manager product. We will also steward the Hotsos ILO open-source project. All these projects will be staffed by the same people that invented and maintained them at Hotsos. Method R will also own the Hotsos performance diagnosis education curriculum (called, at different points in history, the Hotsos Clinic, PD101, and Oracle Performance Management using Response Time Profiling). Method R also has a license to teach the popular Hotsos SQL optimization curriculum.
For a little while, we will have a simple, very boring web page at http://method-r.com. Within a couple of weeks, we’ll have a fully operational web site. For a while, Hotsos will forward personal e-mail to me. If you want to reach me directly, I’m cary.millsap at the new method-r.com domain.
Wish us luck!
