How to change hostname in Solaris

How to change hostname in Solaris

Changing hostname in Linux and HP-UX is relatively easier comparing to changing hostname on Solaris. However it’s not difficult to change the hostname in Solaris but process and configurations files are little different.

Steps to change the hostname in Solaris

Here is how you can change the hostname of an Solaris 8,9 or Solaris 10 servers without doing a reboot.

To change the hostname on a Solaris system, you should change the old hostname with new hostname in these files:

/etc/hosts

/etc/nodename

/etc/hostname.*

/etc/net/ticlts/hosts

/etc/net/ticots/hosts

/etc/net/ticotsord/hosts

/etc/inet/ipnodes

You can then try rebooting your Solaris machine to test your changes and ensure that they operate correctly. Solaris Reboot may or may not be needed.
